About The Unit
5 West (5W) is a smaller unit comprising 25 beds at Butterworth Hospital, supporting the Emergency Department. It cares for a diverse patient population including those with chest pain, heart failure, kidney stones, psychiatric diagnoses, gastrointestinal issues, orthopedic conditions, and neurological disorders, both acute and chronic. The unit also handles telemetry, intravenous treatments, nasogastric/gastrointestinal tubes, chest tubes, dressing/wound care, and CT/MRI patients. Physicians and advanced practice providers remain on-site, ensuring 24-hour accessibility and fostering strong relationships and efficient care.

Scope of Work
Delivers nursing care according to the American Nurses Association (ANA) and state regulations. Demonstrates competency through the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds professional standards, including ethical practice, cultural sensitivity, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, research, quality improvement, resource utilization, and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN)
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required within 5 years
Mi Registered Nurse (RN) license required
AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days
