RN - Night Shift

About the role

Geisinger Behavioral Health is seeking dedicated and passionate Registered Nurses (RN) to join their team. The facility is a 96-bed inpatient center located in Moosic, PA, caring for adolescents and adults with acute behavioral health disorders.

Responsibilities

• Provide and coordinate care by assessing patients' physical and behavioral health needs.
• Develop and implement nursing care plans.
• Maintain medical records and educate patients and their families about various physical and behavioral health conditions.
• Provide nursing care and services within the standards and scope of nursing practice as defined within the state Nurse Practice Act regulations, policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as facility and corporate policies and procedures.
• Ensure physicians' orders are legible if taken verbally and transcribed appropriately per policy and procedure.
• Maintain ongoing assessment of patients' status and gather and document pertinent information.
• Notify physicians of significant changes in status such as difficulties with detox, medical emergencies, changes in medical status regarding response to medications, and related challenges.
• Complete initial nursing treatment plans upon admission and ensure all nursing treatment plans are specific to assessed needs.
• Demonstrate knowledge and utilization of universal precautions in providing direct patient care.
• Accurately administer medications per ordered notes.
• Document accurate counts of controlled substance medication administrations on required documents.
• Efficiently and accurately complete admission and discharge processing as directed.
• Exhibit therapeutic rapport with patients by maintaining professional boundaries, respecting personal space, giving patients direct attention, and maintaining rational detachment.
• Communicate therapeutically and professionally with patients, visitors, co-workers, and others involved inpatient treatment.

Requirements

• Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
• Must possess a current Registered Nurse (RN) license as required by the state of employment or be eligible to practice nursing in accordance with state requirements.
• One year of nursing experience; previous psychiatric, mental, behavioral, or substance abuse nursing experience a plus.
• CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).

Qualifications

• Education: Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
• Licensure: Must possess a current Registered Nurse (RN) license as required by the state of employment or be eligible to practice nursing in accordance with state requirements.

• Knowledge of universal precautions in providing direct patient care.
• Ability to accurately administer medications and document counts.
• Proficiency in maintaining medical records and educating patients/families.
• Effective communication and therapeutic rapport building skills.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and provide direct attention to patients.

Pay

• Hourly rate up to $47/hr, DOE.
• Shift differentials available for Week Evening and Night, Weekend Days, and Weekend Evening and Night shifts.

Schedule

• All shifts include rotating weekends.
• Available schedules: 2P-10P, 10P-6A, 6A-2P.
