NICU Overview

State Designated Level III NICU with 21 licensed beds, 200 annual NICU admissions, 93% BSN, 58% RNC, International Board‑Certified Lactation Consultants, 2‑time Magnet Recognized Facility, 24/7 neonatologist coverage and in‑house NNP coverage.

• Patient population: 22 weeks gestational age to term
• Patient ratios: 1:3 – vented; 1:2 – high acuity; 1:1 – intensive care

Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in the NICU, you will oversee patient care using a professional practice model. Responsibilities include patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating and evaluating care plans, educating patients and families, delegating tasks, and ensuring compliance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
• Create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans; adjust plans to achieve desired outcomes.
• Educate patients, families, and community members to promote informed healthcare decisions.
• Delegate tasks appropriately and follow up promptly, ensuring safety and effectiveness.
• Maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families, managing discomfort and fostering professional connections.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and community resources to develop comprehensive care plans.
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in electronic medical records.
• Participate in peer development, teamwork, and community service initiatives.

Requirements

• Shift: 7 pm – 7 am
• On‑call: 1 shift every 6 weeks; must reside within 30 minutes of the hospital.
• Minimum 1 year Level III NICU experience (including vented patients) or strong Level II experience; delivery attendance for high‑risk deliveries preferred.
• Current RN license in Texas.
• BLS certification (or obtain within 30 days of start date).

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Specialized field of study in nursing.
