RN - Neuro/Oncology Registered Nurse

About the role

The Acute Care RN position at MercyOne Genesis is responsible for providing and directing safe, effective, and culturally competent care for patients with acute medical and surgical conditions. This role involves utilizing critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outcome-based care for a diverse patient population, including post-operative, medical, telemetry, and neurologic patients.

Responsibilities

• Counsels patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, and preventive measures.
• Coordinates care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and other nursing team members.
• Facilitates communication with physicians, patients, and families, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Adheres to MercyOne’s performance expectations and upholds the Mission, Vision, and Values of MercyOne.
• Conducts assessments, identifies patient problems, develops a plan of care, implements the plan, evaluates patient progress, and revises the plan as needed.
• Demonstrates clinical competence and manages telemetry and cardiac monitoring when applicable.
• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Requirements

• Aceessory degree in nursing required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Registered Nurse in Iowa, Registered Nurse in Illinois within 1 year.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required only if the unit has telemetry monitoring capabilities.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of acute care nursing experience preferred.
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and cardiac monitoring preferred.

Skills

• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of clinical protocols and procedures.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
