Responsibilities
- Practice guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics.
- Record patients' medical history and symptoms; perform diagnostic tests and analyze results; operate medical equipment; administer treatment and medications; assist with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
- Establish or contribute to care plans, including administering medication, managing IV lines, providing therapies, observing and recording patient progress, and consulting with physicians.
- Teach patients and families about managing illnesses or injuries, post-treatment and home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise, and self-administration of medication.
- Provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides, delegating tasks as appropriate.
- Support efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills; precept new hires and students.
- Collect and analyze health data systematically, prioritizing based on the patient’s immediate needs and involving the family.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise patient care plans that are family-centered, developmentally and age-appropriate, and culturally relevant.
- Identify expected outcomes and implement interventions based on evidence-based practice.
- Provide nursing care to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, and social-cultural needs using a family-centered approach.
- Evaluate patient progress and document observations, interventions, and monitoring data.
- Assess the quality and effectiveness of care plans to ensure cost-effective, high-quality healthcare.
- Evaluate and enhance personal nursing practice in relation to professional standards and regulations.
- Integrate ethical principles and cultural/diversity needs into practice.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families in care delivery.
- Develop and evaluate evidence-based standards of care; participate in research to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
- Utilize resources effectively and efficiently to ensure safety, effectiveness, and cost-efficiency in patient care.
Requirements
- Associates or Diploma in Nursing required; Bachelors in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 5+ years of Registered Nurse experience (including direct or indirect roles).
- Stroke-specific education requirements apply for staff caring for stroke patients (prior to start).
- 1+ years of RN experience required; >10 months in med-surg or acute specialty setting preferred.
- 1 year of RN experience required for all Float Positions.
Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona or compact state licensure upon hire.
- Unit-specific certification for the patient population preferred.
- National certification for unit-specific patient population preferred.
