About the Unit

Gerber Med Surg is a 13-bed unit with 4 observation beds and 9 inpatient beds. The unit is currently undergoing a refresh, including new paint, flooring, artwork in halls and patient rooms, a new nurses station, breakroom, and staff bathroom. It serves our largest patient population and is a cornerstone of the hospital. Services include telemedicine in pulmonology, neurology, infectious disease, and wound care, with palliative care telemedicine coming soon. On-site resources include MRI (6 days a week), CT, fluoroscopy, general and orthopedic surgery, care management, and medical social workers. The Gerber team is focused on keeping quality care local.

Gerber ICU is an 11-bed unit with 2 observation beds and 9 inpatient beds. It is also undergoing a refresh with new paint, flooring, and artwork. The ICU is a mixed unit serving both Med/Surg and ICU patients. Telemedicine services include pulmonology, neurology, infectious disease, wound care, and VICU, with palliative care telemedicine coming soon. On-site resources include MRI (6 days a week), CT, fluoroscopy, general and orthopedic surgery, care management, and medical social workers.

Responsibilities

Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA, including:

Requirements

• Associate’s in Nursing (Required)
• Bachelor’s in Nursing (Required within 5 years)
• Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license (Required)
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required within 90 days)
• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (Required within 6 months)

• Shift: Night (7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.)
• Weekly Scheduled Hours: 36
• Days Worked: Variable
• Weekend Frequency: Every other weekend
