About the Role

A Registered Nurse in Maternity Services provides direct nursing care to patients through assessment, plan of care creation and implementation, and coordination with other care providers within the hospital system.

Responsibilities

• Create and implement a written plan of care addressing the specific needs and goals of each patient, making referrals to other professional services as required.
• Modify the plan of care based on reassessment of the patient, including observed response to treatment and evaluation of progress toward goals; delegate tasks to team members as appropriate within their scope of practice.
• Observe, document, address, and implement planned interventions, communicating the plan to all team members through accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and verbal reports when needed.
• Document accurate patient information in compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
• Provide patient care through selective procedures, including but not limited to IV starts and restarts, blood administration, phlebotomy, answering call lights, and serving as testing personnel under CLIA 1988 regulations for point-of-care testing.
• Administer medications accurately and timely according to physician orders and organizational policy, maintaining knowledge of medication actions, side effects, and allergic reactions; document patient responses.
• Successfully transition patients by communicating the current plan of care through walking rounds and providing accurate, timely reports to incoming staff.
• Advise physicians, other disciplines, and family/significant others of changes in the patient’s condition or abnormal findings; communicate clearly and concisely.
• Provide clear, specific educational and discharge information to each patient and/or family member.
• May precept new employees and oversee other members of the care team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• RN license in the state of Indiana by the date of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months of hire (American Heart Association).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association).
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• S.T.A.B.L.E. certification for Nursery staff.
• Basic Telemetry may be required for labor and delivery staff at management discretion.

Qualifications

• Education:
  • Minimum: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing by the date of hire.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience:
  • Minimum: None.
  • Preferred: One year as a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting.
