Job Summary
Provides direct and indirect patient care in the maternity services department including labor, delivery, postpartum, triage and NICU. Communicates with physicians/Nurse Manager/charge nurse/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition.
Responsibilities
- Cares for antepartum, laboring, delivery, cesarean, (including circulating), recovery, postpartum mother/baby care, newborn admissions, and triage patients.
- Floating to NICU as needed, taking care of NICU patients assigned appropriately.
- Performs a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassesses as per policy.
- Performs waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the resident care unit’s policies and procedures.
- Interprets results of waived tests; takes appropriate action on waived tests results.
- Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
- Documents patient care responsibilities meeting current standards and policies.
- Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, co-workers and physicians.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Nebraska Registered Nurse Licensure.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current ACLS and NRP certification: or will obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Currently have Fetal Monitoring or Inpatient OB Certification or obtain within 2 years of hire.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
- Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
- Knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
