RN/LPN Charge Nurse - Day Shift

About the role

Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center (SBVCC), operated by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, is a single‑level facility with 200 single‑occupancy rooms across four nursing units. Named for Medal of Honor recipients Colonel Van Barfoot and Colonel Carl Sitter, SBVCC provides the gold standard in quality care for Virginia’s veterans. The center is recruiting a Floor Nurse with Charge Nurse responsibilities for the 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM shift, which includes a shift every other weekend.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and treatment accurately for assigned residents.
• Consult with physicians; receive, record and implement orders and schedule appointments.
• Document residents’ health changes via acute care nurse’s notes and shift change nursing reports.
• Formulate plans of care for new residents and prepare all required reports and documentation.
• Conduct daily rounds; observe and evaluate the physical and emotional status of assigned residents and take necessary actions to ensure their health and well‑being.
• Maintain equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for nursing care; consult with Nursing Supervisor/Unit Manager as needed.

Requirements

• Current licensure as a Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse in Virginia.
• Successful completion of a background criminal history check, reference and employment verifications, and pre‑employment drug test.
• TB skin testing completed upon hire.
• Proof of COVID‑19 vaccination (or approved medical/religious exemption) as required by federal CMS regulation; exempted individuals are subject to testing requirements.

Qualifications

Nursing experience in a long‑term care or adult geriatric setting is preferred.
