Position Summary
The Lactation Consultant works directly with breastfeeding mothers supporting the mother/baby breast feeding dyad. Develops plan of care and reinforces plan with patient and nursing staff. Works to solve breastfeeding problems and bring them to a resolution. Promotes breastfeeding in the community and supports breastfeeding initiatives. Provides ongoing education for patients and nursing staff. Applies nursing process and theories, as well as principles of psycho-social and physical sciences. Practices autonomously within professional nursing standards, the ANA Code of Ethics and the ANA Bill of Rights. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
- Hand and Wrist - Grip a dynamometer for 10 seconds with a force > 10 lbs. Pinch together the thumb & forefinger for 10 seconds with a force > 2 lbs.
- Supported Elbows - Rotate wrist from left to right while holding 5 lb. weight. Fully flex and extend elbow while holding a 5 lb. weight.
- Shoulders - Able to reach overhead (shoulder flexion > 135)
- Legs - Squat Kneel on a single knee, demonstrated on either left or right knee. Push and Pull Push a stationary loaded cart with a pushing force of 20 lbs. Pull a stationary loaded cart with a pulling force of 20 lbs.
- Lifting - Floor to Table/Table to Floor 20 lbs. requirement Table to above shoulder height 10 lbs. requirement
Threshold Requirements
- Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements
- In-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation
- TB/PPD Surveillance Program
- Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
