About the Role

This position acts as a leader in the provision of patient care using the nursing process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses, and Scope & Standards of Practice. The role involves effectively delegating, directing, and assisting licensed and ancillary team members while assuming accountability for quality patient outcomes. The incumbent exhibits sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity and maintains involvement in activities aimed at achieving unit and departmental strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively uses the nursing process in the delivery of patient care.
  • Assesses learning needs and implements teaching strategies appropriate for the diverse needs of the patient, family, and other groups or disciplines.
  • Communicates, delegates, and manages nursing team resources (human and fiscal) properly and serves as a leader and partner on the interdisciplinary team.
  • Uses data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and promote change in order to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction, employee morale, and improvement in the profession of nursing.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, and communication style.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements and ensures compliance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current registered nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred).
  • Work Experience: None required, but preferred experience may include a Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Certifications: Certification in a clinical specialty area is preferred.

Skills

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Physical Work: Heavy Work — Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Exposure: Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. Occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste.
  • Work Environment: Patient care areas with direct interaction with patients and specimens.
