About the role

Provides nursing care to obstetric patients through labor, delivery, recovery and the immediate postpartum period, and to newborns following birth. Performs continuous maternal and fetal monitoring, recognizes complications and intervenes appropriately. Supports patients and families and provides postpartum and newborn education.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: Required
• Labor and delivery or obstetric nursing experience: Required
• Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice: Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification: Required

Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor obstetric patients throughout labor, delivery and recovery.
• Perform continuous fetal monitoring and interpret fetal heart rate tracings.
• Administer medications, IV therapy and oxytocin per physician orders.
• Assist the provider during vaginal and operative deliveries and provide immediate newborn care.
• Recognize obstetric and neonatal emergencies and initiate intervention.
• Provide postpartum care, newborn assessment, feeding support and discharge education.
