About the Role

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in Labor & Delivery, you will be a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team ensuring patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care. This role operates within a clinical environment supported by the Wellstar Shared Governance Model, guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practice.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice to deliver individualized, patient-centered care.
  • Provides relationship-based care tailored to population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) while adapting to cultural diversity.
  • Partners with patients and significant others using methods like bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient teaching to keep them informed and focused on patient goals.
  • Coordinates safe, high-quality patient care and documentation, promoting a respectful and inclusive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing fiscally responsible care and supporting recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
  • Participates in performance improvement, research, and shared governance initiatives to promote safe, quality patient care.
  • Completes professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training; serves as a preceptor or mentor for other nurses and staff.
  • Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participates in value analysis for patient care products.
  • Upholds organizational policies, clinical competencies, and regulatory standards (e.g., TJC Patient Safety Goals, Wellstar Health Systems’ safety absolutes).
  • Proactively plans patient care across the continuum and participates in developing protocols to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reducing readmissions, adverse events).
  • Supports efficient use of human and material resources.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing or graduation from an accredited/approved school of nursing (Bachelor's Degree preferred).
  • Current RN license (Single State or Multi-state Compact).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct patient care experience.
  • At least one year of Labor & Delivery Unit experience preferred.

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English; basic computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies decisively and respectfully.
  • Excellent time management and critical thinking skills.
  • Analytical skills to apply evidence-based practice in nursing care.
