This role is in the Intermediate Intensive Care Unit (IICU) at Troy Hospital, a 530-bed, Magnet®-designated facility serving the northern Detroit suburbs. The IICU cares for diverse patient populations and acuities, including post-ICU patients from one of four ICUs at Troy, as well as those requiring more intensive care than a Progressive Care Level. Common patient conditions include tracheostomies, strokes, congestive heart failure (CHF), alcohol withdrawal (ETOH), pneumonia, BiPAP, stable tracheostomy-to-vent patients, titratable IV drips, chest tubes, and various medical and surgical disease processes.

About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) operates under the ANA scope of practice, utilizing the nursing process framework to deliver professional, patient-family centered care. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharging patients while recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN collaborates with the Nurse Leader, incorporates patient/family input into care plans, develops teaching strategies, and documents education and learning in the health record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care under the ANA scope of practice, incorporating patient-family centered care principles.
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and manage patient discharge using the nursing process framework.
  • Deliver quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader, following Corewell Health policies and procedures.
  • Partner with patients and families to incorporate their input and goals into the care plan.
  • Develop and implement teaching strategies for patients and families, documenting education in the health record.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (required within 5 years of hire).
  • Graduates from a non-accredited nursing school must have at least one year of acute care experience or two years of experience in a licensed healthcare role and must have passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • Active Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license (required).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke (required upon hire).
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required within 6 months of hire).
  • Specialty certification highly recommended within 2 years.
  • Direct inpatient care experience (preferred).
  • One year of experience as an RN (preferred).

Schedule

  • Employment Type: Part-time.
  • Shift: Night (7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.).
  • Weekly Scheduled Hours: 24.
  • Days Worked: Variable; self-scheduling available.
  • Weekend Frequency: Every third weekend.
