RN, Intensive Care Unit Per Diem, Variable Shift

About the role
This non-exempt position plans, coordinates, and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served in the Intensive Care Unit. The role ensures quality care is provided efficiently and safely, consistent with unit standards. The Registered Nurse demonstrates performance aligned with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the unit and organization, remains flexible to changing systems, and treats staff, physicians, patients, and families with consideration and respect. This position is represented by RCHEA.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to the Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct.
- Provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, including child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
- Assess data reflective of patient status and interpret it relative to age-specific needs.
- Collaborate with others to achieve unit and organizational goals, demonstrating a professional and supportive attitude.
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span and critical skills for age-appropriate care in the ICU setting.
- Interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide necessary care.
- Remain flexible to changing systems and receptive to new ideas.
- Maintain compliance with all competencies, licenses, certifications, and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health, The Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory agencies.
- Make comprehensive nursing decisions based on facts and evaluations of patient outcomes; modify the plan of care as needed.
- Meet clinical competency requirements specific to the Intensive Care Unit.
- Monitor hemodynamic status of patients and correctly interpret findings.
- Participate in unit and integrated service projects to improve organizational performance.
- Perform head-to-toe assessments and reassessments per policy for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
- Perform other duties and innovations as assigned.
Requirements
- At least two years of documented ICU experience and/or completion of an approved ICU training course, including didactic and clinical experiences.
- Basic computer skills.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Qualifications
- Current license as a Registered Nurse by the State of California.
- BLS Certification following American Heart Association guidelines (no other cards accepted).
- ACLS Certification required.
- PALS Certification within six months of hire.
- CCRN certification encouraged.
Skills
- Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and working with arms above shoulder height.
- Frequent transferring of patients, including pulling, lifting, or pushing patients side to side, to a sitting or standing position, or laterally.
- Frequent pushing of patients in wheelchairs, gurneys, and beds.
- Ability to demonstrate a pull lift of 50 pounds from the floor.
- Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional sitting, walking on inclines and declines.
- Confidentiality compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
Equipment Used
- Frequent use of computer, telephone/voicemail system, and laser printer.
- Occasional use of photocopier and fax machine.
Work Environment
- Category 2 for potential exposure to blood/body fluids (does not usually require routine exposure but may involve unexpected performance of such procedures).
- Frequent repetitive hand motions and standing.
- No driving or climbing ladders required.
Pay
The estimated base pay for this position is $72.15 to $108.13 per hour. Additional individual compensation may be available through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package; a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
Schedule
- Per Diem (variable shift).
- 12-hour shifts.
