RN, Infusion

About the Role

Practices within the professional boundaries established by the Board of Nursing in assessing patients’ needs, administering physician-prescribed treatments, teaching patients and family members about their disease state and corresponding treatments and side effects, counseling patients and family members when appropriate, and assisting the physician in the overall care of the patients. This position is safety-sensitive; the employee must maintain constant alertness to work safely.

Responsibilities

• Provides on-site patient care and infusion services, including coordination of care with physicians, staff members, and ancillary services.
• Teaches new patients about disease, treatment information, available support services, and counseling options.
• Facilitates communication to resolve patient issues and concerns, reviews problems with the physician team, and takes appropriate action.
• Administers and evaluates new and existing programs/protocols.
• Maintains accurate patient charts/records and documents nursing actions and functions.
• Verifies all doses of intravenous admixtures prepared by technicians.
• Travels to CARTI Cancer Center and Clinic locations outside of Little Rock as required.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Valid and current Arkansas state nursing license.
• BLS Certification.
• Chemo Certification within six months of hiring.
• Maintains an active AR RN License.
• Ongoing education toward ONS certification.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of clinical experience in direct patient care preferred.
• Excellent computer and basic office equipment skills.
• Expertise in IV therapy skills and injections preferred.
• Maintains hematology/oncology expertise.
• Up-to-date knowledge of biotherapy, chemotherapy, and infusion therapy drugs and their potential side effects.

Skills

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, or schedule form.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact and communicate verbally and in writing with physicians, departmental personnel, and outside agencies while respecting patient confidentiality.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
