Adventist Health Sierra Vista is a 162-bed acute care facility located on the Central California Coast, serving the community since 1959. About the Role

Responsible for the planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients in a critical care setting. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel within their scope of practice. This position requires critical care nursing knowledge and skills applicable to patients with multi-system failure, including those requiring ventilation, neuro/trauma care, respiratory failure, and hemodynamic monitoring. This position is represented by the California Nurses Association (CNA).

Responsibilities

• Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations.
• Competent in routine nursing skills, including:
  • Medication administration
  • Intravenous therapy, including blood products
  • Care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains
  • Safe use of medical equipment in the critical care setting
  • Understands and follows the chain of command per policy
• Accurately interprets ECG rhythms and manages care during life-threatening emergencies for populations served.
• Verifies alarm settings with Monitor Technician according to policy.
• Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application; makes recommendations for optimal monitoring based on patient presentation.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the care and management of patients requiring:
  • ICP and ventriculostomy monitoring, including assessment and intervention for neurological symptom changes
  • Pulmonary Artery Monitoring Catheters
  • Arterial Pressure Monitoring Catheters
  • Mechanical ventilation and other ventilatory support devices (e.g., CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow O2 masks)
• Demonstrates knowledge of multisystem alteration principles and their impact on physiological functions, developmental tasks, and mental processing in adults and elders.
• Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with the healthcare team and provides care based on that plan.
• Educates patients and families regarding care using age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and learning-ready teaching methods.
• Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including patient responses to medications, treatments, and procedures.
• Consistently performs unit-specific safety and quality control checks (e.g., shift and 24-hour MD order checks, VO/TO Read Back, crash cart checks, urine QC, refrigerator logs, and outdate checks).
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED: Required
• Associate Degree in Nursing (A.A. or A.S.): Required
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred
• Passing completion of a Critical Care Nursing course: Required
• Six months of previous critical care experience: Preferred

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the state of practice: Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy: Required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy: Required
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required within 1 year of hire or transfer into the department (current employees as of 06.30.2021 have 2 years to complete)

Pay

The estimated base pay for this position is $52.17 to $83.56 per hour. Additional individual compensation may be available through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
