About the role

The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. He/she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate from a nursing program required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Work Experience: No experience required for new graduates of a nursing program (eligible). Nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred. For PRN positions, 1 year in a hospital setting required.
• Licenses and Certifications: Current RN license in the State of Georgia or NLC/eNLC Multistate License required. BCLS (Basic Life Support) required.

Additional certifications by specialty

• Cardiac Tele: ACLS certification required within 180 days (nurse residents or new to specialty must complete within 6 months of start date).
• Critical Care: ACLS certification required within 180 days (nurse residents or new to specialty must complete within 6 months of start date).
• Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred.
• Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS certification required within 180 days (nurse residents or new to specialty must complete within 6 months of start date; experienced ED nurses have 6 months to obtain PALS).
• Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification required prior to independent chemotherapy administration (upon hire).
• Pediatrics: Identifies, reports, and provides appropriate protective measures for high-risk situations including abuse/neglect, failure to thrive, and potential for abduction. PALS certification required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital within 180 days (nurse residents or new to specialty: within 6 months of start date). PEARS or PALS certification required at Piedmont Athens Hospital within 180 days (nurse residents or new to specialty: within 6 months of start date).
• Surgical Services (PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU): ACLS required; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (nurse residents or new to specialty: within 6 months of start date). OR: BLS only required within 180 days.
• Women's Services:
  • Labor and Delivery: ACLS certification within 180 days (nurse residents or new to specialty: within 6 months of start date); NRP by end of orientation period; AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date.
  • Mother/Baby: NRP by end of orientation period.
  • NICU: NRP by end of orientation period.
  • NAT (Newborn Admission Team): NRP by end of orientation period.
  • Nursery: NRP by end of orientation period.
