About the role

The ICU is a 20-bed unit at Allegheny Health Network (AHN), a part of Highmark Health. It serves diverse patient populations including trauma, OB trauma, neurology, cardiothoracic, and critically ill medical and surgical patients. The unit is nurse-driven, with a 24/7 intensivist and trauma surgeon who values the input of the nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership in a professional practice setting.
• Assigns or delegates tasks based on patient needs and staff capabilities.
• Ensures a safe environment and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams.
• Shares knowledge and skills with peers and participates in quality initiatives.
• Assesses patient conditions, develops expected outcomes, and documents interventions.
• Manages assigned LPN scope of practice and evaluates their performance.
• Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Promotes patient safety and satisfaction, resolving concerns and improving communication.

Qualifications

• Current State of Pennsylvania RN license or multi-state licensure through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
• CPR certification.
• Act 34, Act 33, and Act 73 criminal background clearances.
