About the Role

Endoscopy RN will admit and assess patients for endoscopic procedures, administer procedural sedation, and monitor patient vital signs during procedures. Assist physicians with equipment during procedures including biopsy, brushing, and washings. Monitor and provide care for patients recovering from procedural sedation and deep sedation. Takes call for after-hours and weekend cases.

Responsibilities

• Admission of patients to endoscopy lab, assessing history, medications, labs, vital signs, and starting intravenous lines to facilitate delivery of medication for sedation.
• Triaging of inpatients for endoscopic procedures based on severity of illness.
• Specializes and assists in the care of critical and non-critical patients undergoing diagnostic and specialized endoscopic procedures including sedation and post-procedure recovery.
• Assisting physicians with interventional procedures such as ERCP's, EUS, EBUS, navigational bronchoscopies, and PEG tube placements.
• Monitor patients in phases I and II of recovery from endoscopic procedures, including post-procedure assessment of vital signs, adverse reactions, and readiness for discharge.
• Educates patients and families on pre- and post-procedure care.
• Call coverage nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• Must be licensed as an RN for one (1) year.
• One (1) year of Critical Care, Cardiac, ER, or Endoscopy experience preferred.
• EKG class must be completed within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Valid RN license.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN) certification preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Technical skills required to administer conscious sedation in accordance with the MS Board of Nursing position statement.
• Facilitate the care of critically ill patients, including management of central lines, arterial lines, handling ERCP wires, catheters, and maintaining aseptic technique.
• Ability to maintain a sterile field while assisting physicians with sterile procedures.
• Competency in all equipment used in emergent endoscopic procedures.
