Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients, implements department protocols and provides appropriate nursing interventions and on-going assessment.
  • Implements life support procedures in emergency situation.
  • Facilitates patient flow in the department.
  • Promotes cost consciousness by directing patients to D/C area for collections and using supplies wisely.
  • Treats all patients, families, co-workers and physicians in a customer friendly manner, actively giving information to patient and family, providing comfort measures, maintaining clean work environment and calling patients for follow up as assigned.
  • Maintains accurate records, legibly documents and reports patient care and charges, time of triage, time placed on bed, and time discharged from Emergency Services.
  • Documents and discharges patients giving appropriate teaching information and referrals.

Qualifications

  • Current Alabama RN license or a current RN multi-state license.
  • Prior critical care or emergency room experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
  • Knowledge of all equipment and materials required for procedures described in the Emergency Care Center Policy/Procedure Manual and Nursing Service Procedure Manual.
  • BCLS, ACLS, PALS and department specific competencies must be maintained.
  • TNCC is preferred.
  • BLS must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • ACLs and PALS must be obtained within the first year of employment.
