Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the team at their main clinical location in Eugene, OR. This clinical RN plays a vital role in supporting patient care within the outpatient oncology setting.

Responsibilities

  • Addresses patient calls, portal messages, and emails in a timely manner.
  • Asks appropriate open-ended questions as well as utilizes computerized algorithms/pathways to assist in the assessment of patient's symptoms and side effect management; documents interventions.
  • Manages a wide range of symptoms.
  • Assesses urgency of patient symptoms/side effects and addresses them appropriately.
  • Aggressively manages symptoms to prevent unnecessary emergency department and hospital utilization.
  • If emergency care is needed, collaborates with physicians via electronic communication, face-to-face, or telephone to discuss patient care needs that cannot be independently and appropriately addressed using standard orders or practice protocols.
  • Assesses surgical sites for healing, infection, or other concerns and documents findings accurately.
  • Provides clear post-op education, discharge instructions, and follow-up coordination.
  • Collaborates with providers if the patient can be seen in an outpatient clinic setting for their symptoms.
  • Documents all conversations with patients to maintain a comprehensive medical record.
  • Provides clear instructions and education to patients via telephone and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • 3-5 years of nursing experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.

  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to read and note appropriate measurements.

  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Regular exposure to direct contact with patients with potential for exposure to toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and chemotherapeutic agents.

Pay

The general pay scale for this position is $42.00–$69.46 per hour. The actual hiring rate depends on factors including prior work experience, education, job responsibilities, location, work performance, and internal equity.

Schedule

1.0 FTE (40 hours per week).
