RN First Assistant - Operating Room - Per Diem - Plainsboro, NJ

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members to develop, coordinate and implement a plan of care unique to individual patient needs.
• Communicates effectively with team members, physicians, nursing and ancillary staff.
• Performs as a first assistant to surgeons during operative procedures in the inpatient and outpatient care settings.
• Demonstrates intraoperative competency in the performance of operative and procedural skills.
• Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique relative to surgical procedure.
• Provides for appropriate positioning, prepping, and draping of the patient per physician protocol.
• Applies principles of asepsis and infection control.
• Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon.
• Provides hemostasis by clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, ligating vessels, and by other means as directed by the surgeon.
• Provides anatomical exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning, and sponging techniques as directed by the surgeon.
• Performs wound closure and applies surgical dressings, casts and immobilizing devices as directed by the surgeon.
• Affords assistance with the transfer of the patient from the Operating Room.
• Develops and maintains specialty skill sets as required (i.e. Robotics).
• Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and enhance clinical competencies.
• Maintains all certifications as required.

Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required)
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
• Registered Nurse - NJ (Required)
