About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized nursing care in all phases of the peri-operative role.
  • Assists with pre-and postoperative assessment of the patient and updates preference cards as needed.
  • Performs surgical counts per policy and prepares operating room setup.
  • Assures appropriate traffic control in the operating room.
  • Recognizes abnormal diagnostic laboratory data, blood gas values, radiologic data, and knows the implied significance of each.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and reacts efficiently and appropriately.
  • Assures patients' right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Utilizes appropriate channels of communication when initiating change, reporting information or concerns.
  • Promotes and contributes positively to intra and interdepartmental relations.
  • Assists with the orientation of new employees and assumes unit responsibility when delegated by the nursing manager or director.
  • Initiates the incident reporting mechanisms when indicated.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate's of Nursing [Required]
  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]
  • Registered Nurse (RN) [Required]
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) [Preferred]
  • Certified Registered Nurse First Assist (CRNFA) [Preferred]

Skills

  • Computer proficiency [Required]
  • Perioperative Nursing [Required]
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills [Required]
  • Previous experience and working knowledge of computerized documentation [Required]
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time [Required]
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate clear communication skills and strong anticipatory skills [Required]
  • Manual dexterity, lifting, pulling, pushing of equipment, heavy instrument sets, and patients [Required]
  • Basic RN Nursing skills [Required]
  • Circulating skills [Required]
  • Scrub skills [Required]
  • Fluent in English language, speaking, reading, writing [Required]
  • Ability to prepare surgical suites with appropriate instruments, resources, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards [Required]
  • Knowledge of instruments, supplies, and equipment utilized for surgical procedures [Required]
  • Understanding of the procedures being performed and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon [Required]
  • Strong physician/surgeon relationship skills and team mentality [Required]
  • Up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory, compliance, and accreditation standards and requirements [Required]
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements [Required]
  • Cognitive, psychomotor, and affective behaviors that demonstrate accountability and responsibility for identifying and meeting the needs of peri-operative patients [Required]

Experience

  • 1+ of general nursing experience in an acute care setting. [Preferred]
  • 2+ of nursing experience in the required specialty [Preferred]
  • 2+ years circulating and/or scrub experience required in a multi-specialty setting. [Preferred]
