About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides quality patient and family-centered care as a member of the healthcare team in accordance with St. Charles Health System's mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures. This position applies professional nursing standards, focuses clinical care to enhance the patient experience, and oversees the work of other caregivers while providing direct care to assigned patients.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and demonstrates in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques in compliance with St. Charles Health System policies and Oregon state regulations.
  • Assesses patient conditions and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment; sets outcomes, implements nursing actions, collaborates with other disciplines, and evaluates patient progress.
  • Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Documents all patient care proficiently, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrates awareness of and supports departmental and organizational goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities.
  • Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development of self and others.
  • Communicates effectively (written and orally) and maintains professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests.
  • Identifies work-related problems and implements solutions within the scope of practice.
  • Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization and adheres to Value Improvement Practice (VIP-Lean) principles of continuous improvement.
  • Creates a healing environment that supports the wholeness of patients and caregivers through intentional relationships and focused care.
  • Provides therapeutic presence by responding to patient needs in a caring manner, including active listening, effective communication, and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality, complying with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Delivers timely, efficient, and accurate customer service and patient care.
  • Performs standby callback as assigned (varies by department).
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Current Oregon RN license.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
  • NRP certification.
  • Basic Fetal Monitoring Course; Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring required within 2 years of hire.
  • STABLE certification required by June 30, 2019 (for RNs starting on or prior to June 13, 2018) or within 6 months of hire (for RNs starting after June 13, 2018).
  • 1 year of recent acute care RN experience.

Qualifications

  • Education: Required as per RN licensure; BSN preferred.
  • Certification: Department-specific acute care certification (e.g., RNC, IBCLC) preferred.
  • Experience: Recent RN postpartum, LDRP, or LDRP Senior Capstone experience preferred.
