The Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care in a high-acuity emergency care setting. The RN utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation to provide safe and effective care for patients across the lifespan.

Responsibilities

• Performs triage and prioritizes patient care based on acuity
• Conducts age-appropriate assessments and reassessments of all patients
• Administers medications, performs procedures, and manages critical drips
• Assists physicians with exams and procedures in the emergency department
• Monitors hemodynamic status and interprets cardiac rhythms
• Documents care, treatment, assessments, and education accurately and timely
• Applies infection control and sterile technique practices consistently
• Educates patients and families about care plans and discharge instructions
• Collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary team for optimal care delivery
• Responds calmly and professionally in high-stress, life-threatening situations

Requirements

• Knowledge of emergency nursing protocols, trauma care, and critical interventions
• Skilled in interpreting ECGs, managing IVs, and operating emergency equipment
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
• Ability to adapt to rapidly changing clinical situations and multitask effectively
• Proficient in EMR systems and clinical documentation tools
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended standing, walking, bending, and reaching
• Demonstrates professionalism, clinical judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning

Qualifications

Associate degree in Nursing required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, Graduation from an accredited Nursing Diploma program accepted.

• Current state RN license or compact state equivalent required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within time frame stated in facility policy
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within time frame stated in facility policy
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within time frame stated in facility policy
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) required within time frame stated in facility policy
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification required within time frame stated in facility policy
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred or required within time frame stated in facility policy
• Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) preferred

Skills

Emergency nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred, Demonstrated ability to function under pressure and respond effectively to critical situations
