RN Emergency Department Nights

Responsibilities

• Guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics.
• Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served.
• Records patients' medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and helps with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
• Establishes a care plan or contributes to an existing plan, which may include administering medication, starting, maintaining, and discontinuing IV lines, administering therapies and treatments, observing the patient, and consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians.
• Teaches patients and their families how to manage their illnesses or injuries, explains post-treatment and home care needs, diet, nutrition, and exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and therapy.
• Supports efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills, precepts new hire staff and students, assists staff and students to seek and complete competency skills, and continues to enhance knowledge in nursing management and care of patient problems and conditions as required.
• May continue to improve the patients care plan to enhance patient outcomes and promote cost-effective high-quality healthcare.
• Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, integrates ethical principles, enhances knowledge of culture and diversity needs, collaborates with others in professional development, assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care delivery, develops and evaluates standards of care, identifies changes in nursing practice, and participates in evidence-based research.
• Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care by utilizing all resources effectively and efficiently.

Requirements

• Education: Diploma or Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN), must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 5+ years of RN experience at the time of hire.
• Experience: 1 year RN experience for all Float Positions, 10+ months med-surg or acute specialty setting experience required for all positions.
• Licenses and Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification, State and/or Compact State Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona, National certification for unit specific patient population.
