The Emergency Department RN delivers professional nursing care guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics, focusing on the health and well-being of patients and communities across the greater Phoenix area.

Responsibilities

• Collect health data systematically, prioritizing based on the patient’s immediate condition, and involve the family in the process.
• Analyze assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses and develop, implement, evaluate, and revise an individualized, family-centered, developmentally and culturally appropriate care plan.
• Identify expected outcomes tailored to the patient’s specific health problems.
• Implement interventions in the care plan, including administering treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on standing orders, policies, and procedures.
• Provide nursing care to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social-cultural needs of the patient and family using a family-centered approach.
• Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes and document observations, interventions, and monitoring data in a retrievable form.
• Continuously evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the care plan to ensure it enhances patient outcomes and promotes cost-effective, high-quality healthcare.
• Evaluate your own nursing practice in relation to professional standards, statutes, regulations, and system policies, maintaining current knowledge in nursing practice.
• Integrate ethical principles into all aspects of practice and enhance knowledge of cultural and diversity needs for specific populations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care delivery.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and other healthcare providers to deliver patient care.
• Develop and evaluate evidence-based standards of care for patients and identify changes needed in nursing practice using an evidence-based approach.
• Participate in and apply evidence-based research to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
• Design, create, and apply research to support the integration of evidence into practice.
• Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care, utilizing resources efficiently.
• Provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides, delegating tasks as appropriate.
• Support efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills, precept new hires and students, and assist them in completing competency tasks.
• Enhance knowledge in the nursing management and care of patient problems and conditions as required.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing (ADN or Diploma). All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 5 or more years of Registered Nurse experience (including direct patient care or indirect RN roles) at the time of hire.
• Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• More than 10 months of med-surg or acute specialty setting experience required.
• 1 year of RN experience required for all Float Positions.
• Trauma RN experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (unit-specific certification as required by specialty area).
• State and/or Compact State Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Arizona upon hire.
• National certification for unit-specific patient population preferred.
