RN - Emergency Department, Evenings

Emergency Department with 75,000–90,000 visits per year, licensed for 59 beds, and a 3/4:1 patient-to-RN ratio. Level III trauma center offering triage, assessment, medical screening exams, treatment plans, drug therapy, management of critically ill patients, and patient discharge education. Fully accredited Stroke Center with a recently added 18-bed Cardiac Observation Unit. Multidisciplinary team includes ED MDs, ED APPs, ED RNs, C-RNs, Flow Coordinator, Unit-Based Educator, ED Paramedics, Patient Care Technicians, Radiology staff, Respiratory staff, Patient Experience, and Patient Access.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle using nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
• Function within organizational policies and procedures, demonstrating professional growth and accountability.
• Maintain standards of practice and coordinate patient care activities of all assigned staff to ensure quality nursing care.

Requirements

• Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
• Current Georgia RN license or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• No prior experience required; new graduates eligible.
• 1 year of hospital experience preferred for PRN positions.

Qualifications

Additional certifications by specialty (must be obtained within 6 months for new nurses or those new to the specialty unless otherwise noted):

• Cardiac Tele: ACLS certification.
• Critical Care: ACLS certification.
• Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred.
• Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS certification (experienced ED nurses have 6 months to obtain PALS).
• Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification prior to independent chemotherapy administration.
• Pediatrics: PALS (Piedmont Columbus) or PEARS/PALS (Piedmont Athens). Identifies and reports high-risk situations (e.g., abuse, neglect, failure to thrive, potential abduction).
• Surgical Services:
  • PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU: ACLS; PALS if unit provides pediatric care.
  • OR: BLS only.
• Women’s Services:
  • Labor and Delivery: ACLS; NRP by end of orientation; AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within 12 months.
  • Mother/Baby, NICU, NAT, Nursery: NRP by end of orientation.
