About The Unit

Big Rapids Emergency Department is a community-based hospital that is part of the Corewell Healthcare System. The Big Rapids ED is a certified Primary Stroke Center and Level IV Trauma Center. There are 20 places to treat patients with minor to major medical and traumatic emergencies. Interdisciplinary team members collaborate closely to provide relationship-based care for our patients and their loved ones. Big Rapids ED has over 27,000 visits/year and ranks highly in patient experience and throughput measures. We value teamwork, culture, and process improvement from each member of our team!

Scope of Work

Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA. This includes ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Associates in Nursing Required
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
  • MIC Registered Nurse (RN) Required
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
  • Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) AHA required 6 months
  • Pediatric Adv Life Support (PALS) AHA American Heart Association required 6 months
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) ENA Emergency Nurses Association required within 1 Year
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) ENA Emergency Nurses Association required within 1 Year
