Job Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care in a high-acuity emergency care setting. The RN utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation to provide safe and effective care for patients across the lifespan. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and contributes to quality outcomes through clinical excellence, compassionate service, and adherence to regulatory standards. The Flexible Solutions program provides a temporary opportunity for the employee to work a minimum of 36 hours (typically 3–12-hour shifts) per week for a 12-week commitment period at a Flexible Solutions Program rate of pay. The employee may be required to float between units on assigned shifts. This may include being assigned tech (CNA), Monitor Tech, or charge nurse duties if needed to ensure adequate provision of care for patients. Floating and patient care assignments are always based on the RN’s skill set and experience. Rates and details may vary by facility. Essential Functions Performs triage and prioritizes patient care based on acuityConducts age-appropriate assessments and reassessments of all patientsAdministers medications, performs procedures, and manages critical dripsAssists physicians with exams and procedures in the emergency departmentMonitors hemodynamic status and interprets cardiac rhythmsDocuments care, treatment, assessments, and education accurately and timelyApplies infection control and sterile technique practices consistentlyEducates patients and families about care plans and discharge instructionsCollaborates with providers and interdisciplinary team for optimal care deliveryResponds calmly and professionally in high-stress, life-threatening situations Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Knowledge of emergency nursing protocols, trauma care, and critical interventionsSkilled in interpreting ECGs, managing IVs, and operating emergency equipmentStrong interpersonal, communication, and time management skillsAbility to adapt to rapidly changing clinical situations and multitask effectivelyProficient in EMR systems and clinical documentation toolsAble to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended standing, walking, bending, and reachingDemonstrates professionalism, clinical judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning Qualifications Education Associate degree in Nursing requiredBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred Licenses/Certifications Current state RN license or compact state equivalent requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) required within time frame stated in facility policyAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within time frame stated in facility policyPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within time frame stated in facility policyCrisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) required within time frame stated in facility policyNIH Stroke Scale Certification required within time frame stated in facility policyTrauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred or required within time frame stated in facility policyAdvanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) preferred Experience Emergency nursing experience in an acute care setting preferredDemonstrated ability to function under pressure and respond effectively to critical situations
