Responsibilities

• Practice guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics.
• Record patients' medical history and symptoms, perform diagnostic tests, analyze results, operate medical equipment, administer treatment and medications, and assist with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
• Establish or contribute to care plans, including administering medication, managing IV lines, providing therapies and treatments, observing and recording patient conditions, and consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians.
• Teach patients and families about managing illnesses or injuries, post-treatment and home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and therapy.
• Provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides regarding patient care and delegate tasks appropriately.
• Support efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills, precept new hires and students, and assist in completing competency skills.
• Collect health data systematically, prioritize based on patient needs, and involve family in the process.
• Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses and develop, implement, evaluate, and revise patient care plans that are family-centered, developmentally and age-appropriate, and culturally relevant.
• Identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient’s condition and develop evidence-based, cost-effective care plans.
• Implement interventions in the plan of care, initiate treatments, medications, and emergency measures based on standing orders, policies, and procedures.
• Provide nursing care to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, and social-cultural needs using a family-centered approach.
• Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes and document observations, interventions, and monitoring data.
• Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of care plans to ensure they enhance patient outcomes and promote cost-effective, high-quality healthcare.
• Evaluate one’s own nursing practice in relation to professional standards, statutes, and regulations.
• Integrate ethical principles in all aspects of practice and enhance knowledge of cultural and diversity needs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
• Develop and evaluate evidence-based standards of care and identify changes to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
• Participate in and apply evidence-based research to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
• Design and apply research to support the integration of evidence into practice.
• Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care.

Requirements

• Associates or Diploma in Nursing required. All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 5 or more years of Registered Nurse experience (including direct patient care or indirect RN roles) at the time of hire.
• Bachelors in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Refer to addendum for stroke-specific education requirements for staff caring for stroke patients prior to start.
• More than 10 months of med-surg or acute specialty setting experience required.
• 1 year of RN experience required for all Float Positions.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• State and/or Compact State Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Arizona upon hire required.
• National certification for unit-specific patient population preferred.

Schedule

• 4x10-hour shifts; or 3x12-hour shifts - rotating schedule.
