About the role

Direct clinical oversight for nursing/clinical staff under the direction of the Ambulatory Nurse Director. Responsible for providing clinical expertise and leadership to the delivery of nursing care. This position typically supervises a clinical staff of 45-50 employees and is included in strategic decisions specific to staffing models and oversight of staff performance.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with clinic manager for employee hiring, on-boarding, and orientation.
• Oversee competency of clinical staff through annual skills updates, ongoing educational in-services, and completion of mandatory educational requirements.
• Forecast and communicate accurate information on admission, discharge, and transfer to ensure appropriate patient placement.
• Responsible for triaging and investigating event reviews categories A-E.
• Responsible for clinic audits in a specified geographic area/clinic.
• Assist with MA 1 Course and Second Day Orientation.
• Communicate with appropriate caregivers on difficult/challenging patients to facilitate appropriate care needs; assist staff members with direct patient care as needed.
• Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives (e.g., CQI, TQM, Lean, 100% participation).
• In collaboration with clinic manager, project staffing needs for current and following shift and/or department to provide optimal patient care.
• Ensure that staffing levels/skill levels match census/acuities for the unit; coordinate cost-effective use of staff by ensuring appropriate staff-to-provider ratio.
• Under the direction of the Ambulatory Nurse Director, collaborate with Clinic Manager to complete and conduct annual performance reviews of staff; enforce policies, guidelines, and procedures.
• Responsible for initial and ongoing counseling.

Work environment

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment, and supplies.
• Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors requiring verbal communication as well as hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, and medication preparation.
• Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including heavy items.
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
• Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.).
• May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

Requirements

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in state of practice.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
• Two years of clinical nursing experience.
• Clinical expertise in assigned clinical areas.
• Working knowledge of clinical processes in the ambulatory setting.
• Demonstrated communication skills in recommending quality, customer service, and safety improvement measures.
• Experience mentoring clinical staff.
• RNs hired or promoted into this role need to have or obtain their BSN within three years of hire or promotion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
• Two years of experience supervising clinical staff.

Pay

$41.20 - $62.17 per hour, dependent upon experience.
