RN Clinical Nurse II (Per Diem) - Intermediate and Acute Care

The Intermediate and Acute Care unit at UNC Rex in Raleigh is a 29-bed unit with an average nursing ratio of 1:4, specializing in a diverse patient population, including general and thoracic post-operative patients, cardiovascular patients requiring drip management, and cardiac patients managing acute exacerbations and unstable angina.
This role involves providing competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities
- Education: Identifies and meets personal learning needs. Attends relevant education programs. Uses patient education materials with assistance. Assesses patient/family/caregiver readiness and ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care: Identifies expected patient outcomes and seeks guidance for revising the plan of care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care and communicates relevant information for continuity of care.
- Implementation: Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex needs, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects. Performs bedside point-of-care testing. Follows healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures. Prioritizes care based on patient/family needs and consults appropriate resources for complex care issues.
- Leadership: Develops professional growth goals with assistance. Achieves goals within identified timeframes. Promotes intra/interdepartmental collaboration and participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities. Uses communication systems effectively and provides feedback to coworkers. Promotes cost-effective care and a safe hospital environment.
- Patient Assessment: Determines priorities for care from complex situations. Assesses physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Synthesizes assessment data and anticipates discharge needs. Develops relationships with families to advocate for patient needs.
- Planning: Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care. Uses multidisciplinary resources and prioritizes tasks for patients with complex problems. Addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in care planning.
- Research: Reads relevant journals and brings ideas/questions to staff for applicability assessment.
Requirements
- Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
- One (1) year of relevant and current nursing experience.
Pay
Salary range: $34.22 - $48.38 per hour (hiring range determined by experience and internal equity).
Schedule
