About the Role

A registered professional nurse at Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the surgical patient. The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the assessment, documentation, and evaluation of the plan of care for the patient during the perioperative phase of surgery. This individual demonstrates the ability to prioritize duties and responsibilities in performance as a patient advocate and works in collaboration with medical, anesthesia, managerial, and clinical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

The Registered Professional Nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Competency is evaluated through direct observation, skills lab, verbal or written discussion, formal peer review, or self-assessment based on objective criteria.

Responsibilities

• Assess, document, and evaluate the plan of care for patients during the perioperative phase of surgery.
• Prioritize duties and responsibilities as a patient advocate.
• Collaborate with medical, anesthesia, managerial, and clinical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the life span.
• Assess and interpret patient data to meet age-specific needs.
• Provide care as described in unit policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee (or multistate licensure from a compact state within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents).
• BLS certification completed prior to assignment to the unit/department and maintained thereafter.

Qualifications

• Education:
  • Required: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Preferred: CNOR certification; membership in a professional organization.
• Experience:
  • Required: Will accept new graduates from an accredited school of nursing with valid licensure.
  • Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year of surgical experience.

Full-time position with standard hours at Erlanger Baroness Hospital, Chattanooga, TN.
