RN Circulator

About the role

Circulating nurses are essential members of any healthcare team. They are responsible for maintaining a safe and sterile environment throughout the surgical procedure and providing care to patients before, during, and after surgery. The role is multi-faceted and requires critical thinking, excellent communication, and clinical judgement.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room with necessary equipment and supplies
• Monitor the surgical team to maintain a sterile environment
• Assist in positioning the patient safely before the surgery
• Verify patient information and surgical site before the procedure begins
• Document all aspects of the surgical procedure in the patient’s chart
• Coordinate with anesthesia providers to ensure patient safety
• Manage the flow of the operating room and anticipate the surgical team’s needs
• Handle specimens taken during surgery and ensure proper labeling and documentation

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience
• Experience in operating room or surgical nursing preferred
• Strong understanding of sterile techniques and surgical procedures
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems
• Familiarity with regional and general anesthesia techniques
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds
• Adherence to hospital policies and procedures
