About the role

We are seeking an ICU Charge Nurse to oversee the efficient functioning of the ICU department, balancing administrative duties with patient care. The ICU Charge RN coordinates patient flow, ensures the right resources are available for patient needs, and manages staff assignments based on skill and patient load.

Responsibilities

• Accountable to the Department Director for the quality of nursing staff and delivery of patient care during assigned shift; assists in daily unit operations.
• Communicates unanticipated patient care events and risk management activities to the Director and/or House Supervisor.
• Effectively utilizes nursing personnel, including scheduling, staffing, assignments, supervision, and evaluation.
• Provides direction, supervision, and evaluation of staff, including performance evaluations and progressive discipline.
• Assesses supplies and equipment availability, ensuring proper use and functionality; maintains par levels.
• Collaborates with other department managers to coordinate services, enhance patient flow, and streamline admission/discharge/transfer processes.
• Assesses patient care delivery and documentation quality; directs staff to adjust care plans for patient safety and regulatory compliance.
• Interviews patients/families on admission and during rounds to enhance patient experience and orientation to the unit.
• May perform direct patient care within scope of practice to ensure patient safety and nurse-to-patient ratios; documents temporary relief from Charge Nurse duties.

Requirements

• Current and valid state RN License.
• Current BLS certification upon hire and maintained thereafter.
• Current ACLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
• Minimum of one year of staff nurse experience in an acute care hospital setting; Critical Care setting preferred.
• Previous supervisory experience (1–2 years) in an acute care hospital ICU setting preferred.
• CCRN (AACN) certification within 2 years of hire preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Schedule

• Full-time, night shifts.
• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
