About the Role

The Cardiac Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology Nurse is a skilled and experienced professional Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for excellence in the clinical practice of nursing and the management of patient care. Reporting to Cardio Pulmonary Services with a dotted line to Acute Care Nursing, this specialized nurse supports Cardiology and Interventional Radiology, as well as other clinical departments for conscious sedation procedures (ASA1 and ASA2) and cardiac monitoring (Lexiscan procedures, CT, and MRI testing). The role requires active participation in fulfilling the hospital’s mission, core values, and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate the use of the nursing process to organize, plan, direct, and provide high-quality, individualized patient/family-centered care based on the Watson Model of Care.
• Assess, prioritize, and adapt care plans based on subtle clinical changes and patient needs, including age and population-specific considerations.
• Apply current literature, research, and critical thinking to make sound clinical decisions.
• Develop and maintain therapeutic nurse/patient relationships, respecting patient rights and promoting patient satisfaction.
• Conduct hourly rounding and communicate using SBAR in all hand-off situations.
• Document patient care, including assessments, interdisciplinary plans of care (IPOC), and evaluations following hospital policies.
• Promote patient comfort and active participation in recovery through physical and psychosocial interventions.
• Ensure a safe environment and provide age-specific care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (nurses, physicians, and other healthcare members) to meet patient care needs.
• Monitor and regulate fluid/electrolyte balance, airway patency, and gas exchange; intervene as needed.
• Assist with intubation and maintain ventilated patients during procedures.
• Assess and intervene for patients with myocardial oxygen imbalances, arrhythmias, and other cardiac conditions.
• Administer medications (e.g., vasoactive drugs, antiarrhythmics) safely and interpret diagnostic information (hemodynamic parameters, EKG, pressure wires).
• Manage patients receiving thrombolytic agents and monitor for complications.
• Accurately manage patient coagulation pre-, intra-, and post-procedure.
• Assist with Cardiac and Interventional Radiology procedures, set up equipment, and troubleshoot diagnostic tools (hemodynamic monitors, EKG, pacers).
• Re-establish and maintain hemodynamic stability in patients experiencing shock (hypovolemic, septic, or cardiogenic).
• Admit and recover patients according to policy, remove arterial lines/sheaths post-procedure, and evaluate nursing interventions.
• Meet the learning needs of patients and families using appropriate resources.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary communication between departments (Nursing, Cardiology, Radiology, Peri-Op, etc.).
• Review orders, communicate changes in patient condition, and collaborate with physicians for revised care plans.
• Plan, supervise, instruct, and evaluate ancillary nursing personnel, floats, orientees, and registry staff.
• Maintain professional appearance, adhere to dress code, and wear hospital ID badge.
• Participate in unit-specific Quality and Performance Improvement Plans and comply with regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related healthcare degree. Candidates with ASN, Nursing Diploma, or equivalent and two (2) years of Cath Lab/IR experience will be considered.
• Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience in Telemetry or Critical Care (ICU, PACU, ER).
• Minimum of six (6) months of Cardiac Cath Lab experience.
• Current California Registered Nursing license.
• BCLS and ACLS certification required.
• Certification in CRN or CCRN preferred.
• Adult moderate sedation class required within 30 days of hire and maintained every 2 years.

Skills

• Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish).
• Basic computer skills; Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure with critically ill patients.
• Technical proficiency with monitoring and transfusion devices.

Pay

Hourly rate: $72.00
