About the role
The RN works in a 46-bed unit specializing in cardio-thoracic patients after surgery. The unit cares for patients undergoing various surgeries including coronary artery bypass, cardiac valve surgeries, lung surgeries, heart and lung transplants, and VAD patients (artificial heart pumps).
Responsibilities
- Provides professional nursing care using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Collaborates with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in developing a plan of care and teaching strategies.
- Documents education and learning appropriately in the health record.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Nursing required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred within 5 years.
- Mi Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days.
- AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months.
Qualifications
- Strong clinical skills in cardiac, pulmonary, and post-surgical assessment.
- Foundation in nursing including concise communication, individualization, advocacy, time management, use of policy/standards of care, and ability to adapt quickly in emergent patient situations.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of post-surgical care and patient recovery processes.
