Overview Of The Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse Role
The role involves admitting, recovering, and discharging patients from the Cardiac Cath Lab, with responsibilities including patient follow-up and emergency response during high-risk procedures.
Key Duties
- Assessing adult to geriatric patients' cardiorespiratory status and recognizing physiological or behavioral changes.
- Preparing, cleaning, and maintaining all Cath Lab equipment and procedure rooms.
- Monitoring patients continuously, documenting vital signs, EKG, and procedure data.
- Ensuring pre-procedure checks are complete and patient safety measures are followed.
- Starting IVs, monitoring IV fluids, and safely transporting patients.
- Counting narcotics and educating patients and families.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse licensure; BSN preferred.
- Certifications in ACLS and CPR.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, and perform various physical tasks.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in fast-paced cardiac, electrophysiology, or related settings is preferred.
The role demands strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations within a collaborative healthcare environment.
