RN - Cardiac Catheterization - 40 hrs/wk, 1st shift

Purpose of this Position

Aids the Physician in the care of Cardiovascular patients in the Cath Lab. Coordinates ancillary services and assists in the direction of auxiliary personnel.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Demonstrates ability to be self-directed and function independently in the Cath Lab.
• Absesses, implements, and evaluates patient conditions and provides appropriate nursing responses.
• Facilitates interdisciplinary communication in scheduling procedures and delivering patient care.
• Explains procedures to patients, ensuring understanding, comfort, safety, and privacy, and inquires about medical histories relevant to the procedure.
• Prepares procedure rooms with necessary supplies before starting procedures and demonstrates knowledge of nursing procedures related to the Cath Lab.
• Adheres to all policies, procedures, rules, and regulations pertaining to the department and regulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• BLS / ACLS certifications within 3 months
• 3-5 years of nursing experience with 1-2 years in critical care nursing
• EKG interpretation skills required
• On-call duties requiring arrival within 30 minutes after contact from hospital personnel
• Effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing
• Basic computer knowledge
• Proficiency in interpreting EKG and hemodynamic pressure tracings
• Operates x-ray table, camera, video recorder, ultrasound machines, and pressure injectors
• Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills
• Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served
• Ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret information needed to identify patient requirements
• Cardiac Catheterization Lab experience preferred

Physical Demands

• Full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, sitting, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and standing
• Lifts 50 pounds or more
• Reaches work above the shoulders
• Cold work environment exposure
• Exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.) and possible radiation exposure
