Overview

Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and the Director and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Responsible for supervising and delegating non‑professional personnel working directly with him/her to ensure optimum patient care. Must demonstrate competence in dealing with age‑related needs of the specific patient populations served in the nursing unit. Works under the direction of leadership and a multi‑disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health System and facility goals and strategic plans.

What You Will Do

• Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population.
• Demonstrates nursing‑unit specific competencies and equipment training, see checklists.
• Partners with patients and their family to develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient.
• Incorporates evidence‑based standards of practice and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
• Facilitates safe patient transition to the next level of care as part of the plan of care.
• Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput and ensure consistent, competent, and ethical care.
• Focuses on quality outcomes when addressing service needs to ensure evidence‑based quality care.
• Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations.
• Modifies education methods to ensure patient/family understanding.
• Coordinates and delivers individualized patient education and discharge education to family/caregivers, evaluates comprehension, and documents.
• Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
• Delegates and prioritizes tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence.
• Recognizes and responds to emergency situations.
• Evaluates resources and support needed and uses systems to ensure needs are met.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred) or Associate’s Degree in Nursing (preferred) or Program Graduate, Nursing (Nursing Diploma is the minimum requirement; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of a Nursing Diploma). High School Diploma or GED required only if the candidate is a Nursing Diploma graduate.
• Licenses and Certifications: Registered Nurse (RN) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed in a compact state (required upon hire). CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (required upon hire).
• Other Requirements: Availability for weekend shifts and irregular shifts.

Pay

Hiring range $36.50 – $50.23 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on job‑related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
