About The Unit
This unit is a 26-bed inpatient behavioral/mental health unit. The primary specialty is psychiatric and substance abuse disorder patients. The average length of stay is 7-10 days. The patient population includes depression, anxiety-related disorders, substance abuse, and other mental health-related behavioral issues. RNs will care for patients requiring refocusing and regaining mental health, inpatient rehab for substance abuse, and detoxification. Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:7 for regular behavioral health patients; ratios may be 1:1 or 1:2 depending on staffing needs and unit acuity.

We provide both inpatient and outpatient medical services throughout Southwest Michigan.
Responsibilities
The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. Responsibilities include:
- Providing quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
- Recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
- Partnering with and utilizing patient/family input and goals in planning care.
- Developing teaching strategies for patient/family and documenting education appropriately in the health record.
Qualifications
- Associate’s in Nursing (required).
- Bachelor’s in Nursing within 5 years (required).
- Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
- Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license (required).
- Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program (required).
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days (required).
- Specialty certification (preferred).
- Experience in behavioral health/psychiatric care (preferred).

- Shift: Night (7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.).
- Weekly Scheduled Hours: 36.
- Days Worked: Variable.
- Weekend Frequency: Every other weekend.
