About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants.
  • Make written and oral reports concerning shift activities.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Provide leadership to nursing personnel on your unit/shift.
  • Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts for resident admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
  • Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians.
  • Chart nurse’s notes descriptively to reflect care provided and resident responses.
  • Fill out and submit accident/incident reports as required.
  • Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies.
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Maintain good working relationships with inter-departmental personnel to ensure resident needs are met.
  • Create a calm, warm, and positive environment for residents.
  • Receive/give nursing reports at shift changes.
  • Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
  • Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, wound care, colostomy care, blood draws, massages, and range-of-motion exercises.
  • Monitor assigned personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident care information, including protected health information.
  • Ensure nursing care is provided in privacy and personnel knock before entering resident rooms.
  • Provide IV and IV site care as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current unencumbered state RN license.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and relevant laws/regulations for nursing care facilities.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Long-term care experience preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
  • Meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
  • Push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • Assist in resident evacuation during emergencies if necessary.
