Primary Job Responsibilities

• Oversee the instrument and equipment set-up for your OR, including utilization of preference cards and ability to anticipate your surgeons' needs.
• Circulate during a case, coordinating and overseeing the room.
• Facilitate effective and efficient transitions between surgical procedures.
• Utilize appropriate body mechanics in moving patients to stretchers and OR tables to prevent injury.
• Manage patients' care and medication, including assistance with anesthesia.
• Consistently review charts for completeness, in accordance with documentation protocols, both before and after the surgical procedure.
• Ensure the surgical room is sterile and safe for the patient.
• Work side by side with scrub nurses to help maintain the sterile field in the operating room.
• Prepare the patient for the procedure and handle the preparation for the operating room before the surgery takes place.
• Maintain a strong attention to detail and physical stamina to handle long, arduous work hours.
• Assess the patient's condition before a surgical procedure.
• Assess the needs of the patient during the procedure to ensure the best outcome.
• Work with a physician to develop the care plan for the patient during the surgery.
• Administer pre-operative medications and intravenous therapy as prescribed.
• Monitor patients until transfer to the OR.
• Instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions.

• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
