About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards and facility regulations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants.
• Make written and oral reports concerning shift activities.
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
• Provide leadership to nursing personnel on your unit/shift.
• Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts for resident admission, transfer, and discharge.
• Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians.
• Chart nurse’s notes reflecting care provided and resident responses.
• Complete accident/incident reports and submit to the Director.
• Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies.
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
• Maintain good working relationships with inter-departmental personnel.
• Create a warm, positive, and calm environment for residents.
• Receive and give nursing reports at shift changes.
• Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
• Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, wound care, colostomy care, IV therapy, and range of motion exercises.
• Monitor assigned personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality of resident care information, including protected health information.
• Ensure nursing care is provided in privacy and personnel knock before entering resident rooms.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with a current unencumbered state license.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
• Knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and relevant laws/regulations.
• Current CPR Certification.
• Experience in Long Term Care preferred.

Physical Demands

• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
• Must meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
• Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
• May be required to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies.
