  • Required Experience: Five (5) years of acute care hospital nursing experience

    • Ability to communicate a wide variety of risk management related legal, medical, and business subjects articulately
    • Ability to interface with a variety of professionals, including senior leaders, medical staff members, attorneys, and team members

    • Ability to develop evidence-based recommendations
    • Ability to manage information in a confidentially
    • Promotes courteous and effective communication with external and external customers
  • Required Certification/License/Registry: Licensed as a registered nurse (RN) in accordance with Florida Statutes (FS), Title XXXII (Regulation of Professions and Occupations), Chapter 464 (Nursing), Part I (Nursing Practice Act) [includes multistate compact licensure]
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) credential issued by the American Society for Health Care Risk Management (ASHRM) [and recognized by the Florida Society of Healthcare Risk Management and Patient Safety (FSHRMPS)] within eighteen (18) months post-hire

How You'll Make An Impact

  • Responsible for day-to-day risk management activities, including investigating, managing, and analyzing risk management data.
  • Assists with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare’s (TMH) compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA), and other regulatory risk management standards.
  • Assists the director-level Corporate Risk Manager (immediate supervisor) in coordinating the risk management program to meet the institution’s needs.
  • Collaborates with employees to identify and implement risk reduction strategies to enhance patient safety.
  • Conducts clinical/root cause analysis investigations, including assessing the need for focused reviews by departments.
  • Manages the analysis and investigation of all safety/incident reports and patient complaints for risk management, quality of care, regulatory compliance, and potential exposure concerns.
  • Identifies organizational risk through trend analysis of incidents, complaints, reviews, and reports.
  • Develops educational programs to raise staff members’ awareness to risk exposure and risk prevention.
  • Keeps abreast of appropriate regulatory requirements related to risk management.
  • Provides clinical reviews of liability related claims, including medical summaries for counsel.
  • Coordinates effective complaint resolutions.
  • Promotes a safe environment and continuous safety improvements.
  • Acts as a resource by presenting risk management issues for discussion and evaluation.
  • Maintains knowledge of advanced directives and provides counsel, assisting patients in completing advanced directives.
  • Participates in reporting claims, in accordance with reporting requirements, to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.
  • Directly supervises Risk Mgmt Systems Specialist(s); evaluates performance and completes the annual performance assessment(s).
