RN 6A Stepdown (Weekends), Allegheny General
About the role
The unit primarily serves as a receiving unit for patients stepping down from MICU, admitting patients from the Emergency Department, outside hospitals, and smaller ICUs requiring higher levels of care. Nurses manage a high-acuity patient population requiring frequent blood product administration, intravenous access, and close monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Provides safe and effective care for the age population served according to regulatory requirements.
- Professionally directs and manages the activities of the patient care delivery by the team members.
- Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team for the plan of care from admission through discharge.
- Assesses learning needs of patient and family and provides education based on age, culture, and willingness to learn.
Requirements
- Minimum Current State of PA RN licensure OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- CPR certification.
- One (1) year general nursing experience required.
- One (1) year on specific unit preferred.
Qualifications
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
Skills
Nurses should possess strong clinical assessment and care planning skills, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with patients and families.

Pay
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Shifts are 48 hours every two weeks, scheduled between 11am Friday and 7am Monday, per policy. Orientation may require full-time work for a concentrated period of time, and there is a rotation with rotating weekends and holidays per policy.
