Risk Management - Credit Officer - Associate
About the role
As a Commercial Credit Officer Associate in Dealer Commercial Services, you will analyze commercial loans for prospects and existing customers, collaborate with banking partners, and structure transactions consistent with company policies and procedures. You will take ownership of the credit process, prioritize deal flow, and make decisions in the best interest of customers and the organization. This role requires a broad understanding of the business environment, including the auto industry, current events, and economic cycles.
The Dealer Commercial Services team specializes in floorplan lines of credit, real estate loans, acquisition loans, working capital loans, and treasury products for over 450 franchised retail automobile dealers. You will manage a portfolio of approximately $250 million in loan commitments.
Responsibilities
- Prepare written credit reviews assessing credit opportunities, identifying key risks, and proposing structures to mitigate risks, including covenants, terms, and conditions for approval.
- Determine the capacity of operating entities to repay financial obligations through analysis of company-prepared or audited financial statements and detailed cash flow analysis.
- Complete obligor and facility risk ratings with documented rationale for final risk grades.
- Manage portfolio responsibilities, including annual reviews, loan modifications, covenant breaches, inventory audits, overline management, and analyzing trends in key dealer metrics.
- Interact with clients virtually or in person, in conjunction with the Banker, to keep transactions moving.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills both internally and externally to effectively solve problems.
- Work proactively and diplomatically with internal and external contacts.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or equivalent work experience (if non-Finance related degree). A Master of Business Administration is preferred.
- 1+ years of commercial credit analysis or automotive captive experience, with thorough knowledge of accounting, risk grading, cash flow analysis, financial statement analysis, loan structuring, and market trends.
- Hands-on experience analyzing commercial loans to franchised auto dealerships, including floor plan lending.
- Superior analytical skills supported by excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated judgment and ability to act decisively.
- Expert knowledge of credit philosophy and policies, understanding of commercial loan documentation requirements, and related legal issues.
