Position Summary
The Rigger is responsible for assembling rigging to lift and move equipment or material on a construction project. This position is deemed 'safety sensitive' due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee’s co-workers, and/or the public at large.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
- Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures with bolts and clamps.
- Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropers and chains to crane hook.
- Gives directions to Overhead Crane Operator engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled.
- Sets up, braces and rigs hoisting equipment.
- Splices wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle.
- Adheres to all company safety and OSHA regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a rigger/ironworker.
- Must have all required hand tools.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with others.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to frequently lift in
- Must have ability to bend, stoop, push and pull frequently.
- Exposure to temperature fluctuations and loud work environment.
- Able to qualify as a competent person per OSHA standards.
